2019–20 – Round 5 Thanks

02 Mar 2020
The final round of the 2019–20 season saw the Oxfordshire Cross Country League return to Henley Showground, Greenlands. After the awful weather experienced last year along with all the recent heavy rain the prospects for decent weather were not looking good early yesterday morning as the rain continued to fall. However, at around 6:30am amazingly the skies cleared and the sun shone for what felt like the first time this winter! Although the conditions was cold and blustery the conditions underfoot apeared to be good. Almost certainly the best conditions of the season had been saved for the season’s finale.

Consistent top three performances over the course of the season ensured that Sophie Lloyd (White Horse Harriers AC) and Simon Byrne (Swindon Harriers) were crowned as 2019–20 Overall Women’s and Men’s Champions.

Further convincing performances by the leading teams also ensured the 2019–20 team titles were secured by Swindon Harriers (Division 1 Men) and White Horse Harriers AC (Division 1 Women).

In the lower divisions Kidlington A (Men) and Oxford TC (Women) took the respective Division 2 titles, with Swindon B (Men) and Kidlington A (Women) securing the respective Division 3 titles.

The domination of the team competitions Abingdon AC (Girls) and Radley AC (Boys) in the junior section did not let up. Abingdon A secured both the U13 Girls’ and U15/U17 Girls titles, with Radley A likewise securing the U13 Boys’ and U15/U17 Boys’ titles.

Many congratulations go to all the individual and team prizes winners. I’d also like to take the opportunity to congratulate, in particular, Kiya Dee (Highworth RC) for her recent performance in coming second in the U15 Girls National Cross Country Championships held at Harewood House, Leeds.

The League’s management team would again like to take the opportunity to thank the host clubs, Abingdon AC and Radley AC (in particular for having to deal with the constant changes in preparation for the day of the fixture), along with all the willing volunteers, without whom the fixture could not have gone ahead, for all their hard work in organising and hosting the fixture. As always, many thanks go to all of the officials, timekeepers, recorders, marshals and other volunteers who contributed once again to making the day a great success.

Lastly, once the Round 5 results have been finalised, a notice detailing arrangements for the collection of prizes that were not collected at the awards presentations yesterday will be sent to the clubs concerned.

The OXL committee hopes everyone enjoyed this season’s fixtures and look forward seeing everyone next season.
